The Shack Revolution is a family run business founded in 2015 by brothers James and Rich Manning. Creating extraordinary experiences in extraordinary spaces has been the driving force behind all that we do.
What was once a derelict ‘barn’ in Hereford’s City Centre, was developed into a buzzing pizza and cocktails restaurant adored by locals.
Fast forward four years, The Shack Revolution was once again reimagined and became what it is today, an Urban Industrial Weddings and Events Venue located in the beating heart of Herefordshire.
James Manning picked apples grown by his Uncle Rich from his orchard in Herefordshire, squeezed and bottled them, creating Mannings Juice at just 18 years old. Later, James was joined by his younger brother Rich who helped turbocharge the business. They began selling different varieties of juice in and around Herefordshire at farm shops and food centers, later branching out to popular London markets.
When the brothers had too much juice, and not enough demand, they decided to diversify. They took an old horse box and a bar made from pallets up to an Edinburgh festival, launching the first-ever ‘Juice Shack’ and the start of the ‘Shack’ name. That side of the business has gone on to supply unique, fun-loving bars at major events across the country.
Closer to home, The Shack Revolution originally opened as a 3-month pop-up in a derelict part of Hereford town center, formerly known as The Old Dinosaur Market. Well, it popped up and it stayed up. It flourished into an extremely popular rustic, independent pizza and cocktail bar, loved by the locals, and the staff who were the heart and soul of the Shack culture.
Again, wanting to push the business forward, James and Rich decided it was time for a change. They converted the site into a wedding venue which saw a total overhaul of the space transforming it into a modern and practical venue. They retained as many original features as possible, including the industrial, rustic aesthetic. The team officially opened up the books for wedding inquiries in December 2019.
Well, we all know what happened in 2020; not ideal for a brand-new wedding venue. COVID-19 wasn’t going to slow down the imaginative minds of James and Rich, who decided to turn the space into an outdoor street food festival. Bastion Street Feast was born, which was massively appreciated by Hereford locals who craved an alternative to homemade banana bread and the Houseparty app.
The Shack Revolution officially hosted their first wedding during a pandemic, with limited numbers and masked-up staff. But it was an absolutely beautiful day, with a sunset dinner in The Courtyard surrounded by close family and friends. Amy and Elliot arrived in true Herefordshire style with a big smile and a whole lotta love. It gave us a taste of what was to come, and we loved it.
Bastion Mews is a tucked away little corner of Hereford that’s grown into a hub for indie businesses, creatives and small studios with The Shack Revolution nestled in the corner. The place has kept its rough around the edges charm, with shipping containers, red brick and a laid back industrial feel running through it all. It’s a spot with real character and a mix of people who actually care about what they’re making and doing.
